Understanding and Responding to Developmental Trauma with Children in Care

Aoife Bairead will present this full day workshop

Learning Goals

  • Develop a basic understanding of how trauma impacts children’s development
  • Recognise and respond to behaviours relating to developmental trauma in children
  • Utilise a range of therapeutic tools for working with children with trauma histories
  • Explore how to incorporate trauma focused work into various care settings with children in Ireland

Aoife Bairéad is a social worker specialising in trauma and attachment. Her interest in working with children with attachment issues, developmental trauma and emotional disregulation has brought her to work in a variety of different settings; to Vietnam managing an Art and Music Project for children with emotional, physical and mental health needs; to New York undertaking mediation and group work with at risk teens and their families; as a social care worker with teenagers in residential care in Ireland, and most recently as a child protection social worker and then social work team leader with Tusla.

Aoife is a qualified Social Worker, and has additional qualifications and training in attachment assessments (AAI, Care Index, Narrative Story Stems), as well as interventions for children and adults with trauma histories and attachment issues; Theraplay and Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT).
