Terra Glen Residential Services: Social Care Worker Position


Role Description 

Social Care Worker required for residential childcare service in Co. Dublin, Louth and Cavan area

The role will involve supporting adolescents from 12-18 years approx.

Responsible to: Social Care Leader and Residential Manager.

Duties may be altered or amended to suit the changing needs of our Young People.

Overall Purpose of Position

To take responsibility of the day to day activities and the individual plans for each young person residing in Terra Glen. To assist the social care leader in the responsibility for health and safety, programme developments, personal care plans, budget management, staff planning, staff support and family liaison.

Main Responsibilities

To contribute to the promotion, creation and maintenance of a welcoming, caring and supportive environment in Terra Glen, ensuring a high standard of care is delivered.

  • At all time treat the young people of Terra Glen with dignity and respect.

  • Devise and implement programmes of stimulating activities for the young people

  • Spend time with young people to build relationships

  • To be available to young people

  • To treat young people with unconditional Positive Regard.

  • Escort and assist on group outings arranged.

  • Ensure the young people are not subjected to any forms of abuse and in particular, to ensure they are not subject to bullying or the threat of bullying.

  • Ensure that all relevant records within Terra Glen are maintained to a high standard

  • Share in those duties, which are essential to the maintenance of hygiene, and to undertake domestic duties required maintaining the house in a clean and tidy condition.

  • Under the guidance of the Social Care Leader/ Manager to maintain good relationships with the young people’s families and other professionals/outside agencies.

  • Participate in staff meetings.

  • Ensure that health and safety guidelines are adhered to at all times.

  • Ensure that all accidents/ incidents and complaints are reported and appropriately dealt with in line with Terra Glen’s policies and procedures.

  • Keep the social care leader/Manager informed of all matters relating to the young people through regular reports and oral communication.

  • Develop relevant skills and abilities by taking part in training courses open to you.

Whilst acknowledging the need for the professional sharing of information within the team, you are required to have strict regard to confidentiality within the team.

To carry out other duties which may be agreed from time to time in discussion with the Social Care Leader/ Manager.
